Rape and Sodomy

Rape requires proof that someone (usually a man) forcibly made someone ( usually a woman) to have sexual intercourse with them. Rape can even cause sexual intercourse between an adult and someone who is under the age of 18 or sexual intercourse with someone who has mental illness. The word sodomy refers to forced anal or oral sex between an adult and a juvenile.

A victim is always raped by someone the victim knows. It is believed that more than 70 % of the rape victims knew their offenders.

Date rape is a kinda of rape that usually takes place in campus where someone you know forces you to have sexual intercourse with them.

Attention to date rape drugs, such as gamma-hydroxybutric acid (GHB), that are put in the victims drink . Remember that alcohol consumption can make a women vulnerable to sexual offenses.

If a victim has consumed heavy amount of alcohol and drugs it makes the victim an easy target for abuse and also makes prosecuting the offender more difficult because the victim may have poor memory of what happened and may have engaged in conduct of the defendant will offer as evidence that the vicim agreed to the act.

Victims of rape may experience lasting physical abuse and emotional effects.For example a victim of rape is encouraged by the doctor for examination to obtain forensic evidence of rape ( such as semen, public hairs and blood). Rape victims can also have venereal diseases, become pregnant, suffer economic loss and struggle.

The experience can be frighting and embarrassing.

If you know someone who is victim of rape:

-> Believe them
-> Don't blame the victim.
-> Offer support, patience, help the victim of rape work through the crisis, heal.

  1. lots of clarity there...i like the suggestions at the end...society hurts the 'victim' (i don't like that term) more than the very act of rape itself...

    Cheers!
